Fairfield School

I started at Fairfield in 1945 when it was a segregated school and mixed infants. My first teacher was Mrs. Stevenson. When I was 8 or 9 the school was changed to co-ed and my class was in what used to be the girls school. I took the 11 plus in Miss Thompson’s class on the top floor of what used to be the Boy’s chool. I am sure it was her bony finger prodding me regularly that got me through and to the Grammar School.
